Start with the lighting position and purpose
Battery fixtures work best where power cabling would slow the setup, create a trip hazard or remain visible to guests. Typical positions include walls, scenic flats, entrance paths, stage edges, tables and temporary structures. For each position, decide whether the fixture is providing ambient colour, a narrow accent, a pixel effect or useful illumination. That decision controls the optics, output and runtime you need.
Six specifications to check before ordering
Runtime at the intended outputA maximum runtime figure may refer to a reduced-output profile. Ask how long the fixture operates at the brightness and programme you plan to use.
Battery charge time and turnaroundCompare charge time with your load-in schedule. For multi-day work, also plan charging capacity between events.
Beam angle and diffusionNarrow optics create a concentrated accent; wider lenses and frost filters provide more even wall or scenic coverage.
Pixel controlIndividually controlled pixels are useful for gradients, chases and segmented colour. Simple uplighting may need fewer control channels.
Wireless DMX compatibility“Wireless” does not identify a protocol. Confirm the receiver system and transmitter compatibility before production.
Environmental protectionFor temporary outdoor work, confirm the IP rating and follow the product instructions for connectors, charging and operating conditions.
When a battery pixel bar is the right format
A short pixel bar is useful when you need a linear wash or a visible row of controlled colour points in a compact fixture. BEAM TECHNICA LINEA 500 combines eight independently controlled RGBW pixels in a 500 mm aluminium body. It is suitable for wall washing, scenic accents and colour chases where a conventional cable run is inconvenient.
| Project need | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Wall or backdrop wash | Distance, beam angle, frost option and required coverage width |
| Colour chase or segmented effect | Pixel count, DMX mode and console programming requirements |
| Outdoor event | IP rating, connector protection and expected weather exposure |
| Rental fleet | Charging workflow, flight-case configuration, labels and spare accessories |
Compare runtime claims carefully
Battery runtime changes with output level, colour mix, effects and temperature. A selectable 4-, 8- or 12-hour profile normally manages output to reach the chosen duration; it does not mean the fixture produces the same brightness in every profile. For an accurate quotation, describe the event length and the expected use rather than requesting the longest possible runtime alone.
