TECHNICAL BUYER GUIDE

Wireless DMX battery lights: what buyers need to specify

Battery power removes mains cable from the fixture position. Wireless DMX removes the control cable—but only when the transmitter, receiver and operating plan are compatible.

Wireless DMX and a handheld remote are different tools

A handheld 2.4 GHz remote is useful for local colour selection, simple programmes and small standalone setups. Wireless DMX connects the fixture to a lighting console and carries programmed channel data. If your project needs cues, synchronized fades, pixel chases or integration with other fixtures, specify the wireless DMX system rather than assuming the supplied remote provides console control.

Five questions to answer before ordering

  1. Which transmitter or wireless ecosystem do you already use?Name the manufacturer and model. A fixture described only as “wireless DMX” may use a different receiver.
  2. How many fixtures and DMX channels are required?Pixel modes use more channels than simple RGBW control. Confirm the desired mode before patching the show.
  3. Will RDM be used?RDM can help with addressing and device information, but support should be confirmed across the transmitter, receiver and fixture configuration.
  4. What is the real radio environment?Walls, metal structures, audience density and other 2.4 GHz equipment can reduce practical range. Plan transmitter placement and test at the venue.
  5. What happens if radio control is interrupted?Decide whether the fixture should hold its last value, use a local programme or be accessible for manual control.

Range figures are a planning reference

Published remote or wireless ranges are normally measured under favourable conditions. Treat them as a starting point rather than a guarantee for every venue. For critical cues, test the system at operating height with the audience area, staging and other radio equipment present.

LINEA 500 control options

LINEA 500 supports DMX512 and RDM, eight-pixel control, a 2.4 GHz remote and either a LumenRadio or alternative wireless DMX configuration depending on the order. Confirm the receiver choice before production so the fixture matches the control system used by your rental inventory or venue.
